Our Dojo
The Renshinjuku (trans. “Training improves Spirit and Body”) kendo dojo was established in October 1988 by Bert Heeren (6th dan, Renshi). It was named by Heeren sensei's teacher during his time in Japan, Furuya sensei, who asked him to begin a dojo in the Netherlands. Located in Amstelveen the dojo is now one of the most popular in The Netherlands and we now have around 100 members. We have an eclectic mix of students ranging from recreationally oriented members through to competition level kendoka. Our membership is well balanced in terms of junior/senior kendoka and of women/men. Moreover we have a wide-ranging mix of nationalities in the dojo, a large proportion of which are Japanese. The Renshinjuku dojo is well known for its good quality kendo and our kendoka are often placed in tournament finals. We pride ourselves on the fact that ALL our members are growing through kendo. |
